What we do
Global Learning & Exchange
CIEL brings together experienced educators and experts to organize tailored international experiential learning programs for a wide range of constituencies committed to global learning and constructive engagement- from universities to community partners, professional organizations and private individuals.
Program participants are provided with rigorous pre-travel education and then travel to various conflict-affected regions (e.g., Middle East, Northern Ireland, Vietnam) to experience and learn firsthand through intercultural exchange with conflict and post conflict actors on all sides. Upon their return, participants are empowered to:
Develop a deeper understanding and ongoing engagement with the region
Apply lessons learned about conflict resolution from the regions studied
Utilize skills acquired to engage in difficult conversations across divides
Address issues of division and polarization in their local context
Lifelong learning
CIEL is committed to developing a community of lifelong global leaners and change makers. As part of this commitment, participants are invited to join an active and engaged network of global learners that enables them to transform their CIEL learning experience into a global and local action by:
Providing access to regional partners, networks, contacts and resources
Facilitating personal and professional connections between alumni
Offering exclusive learning opportunities through alumni and community travel, workshops, webinars and trainings
Creating ongoing opportunities for guidance and mentoring
Sharing Best Practices
In addition to our programmatic work and community building, we aim to encourage the exchange of best practices, collaboration and ongoing development within the field of experiential learning and conflict resolution by:
Developing and refining our own experiential learning model
Scholarly publication and dissemination of our methodology and impact
Facilitating knowledge sharing about conflict resolution between practitioners across conflict-affected regions
Sharing regional knowledge and resources with partners
Providing consultancy and coordination services for mission-adjacent organizations
Designing academic curriculum around geographic and thematic focus areas
