Through experiential learning and immersive international travel in conflict-affected regions, CIEL inspires critical thinking and creative engagement to counter division and polarization
Mason Clark, CIEL Northern Ireland 2022, Class of ‘24, Political Science
I was surprised to find how underdeveloped my perspective on conflict truly was when I met and spoke with people in the region. I believe that this is the kind of growth that only comes out of real human interaction - the kind of opportunity offered by CIEL
CIEL gave me the capability to expand upon my passions and global perspectives. Without, I would not have the spark and drive that I have today to pursue an additional major, an internship in the region with connections I made, and the drive to pursue a Ph.D. in Conflict Resolution Studies.
Chloe Kot, CIEL Middle East 2022, Class of ’24, Anthropology & Interdisciplinary Studies
Around the world there are growing levels of polarization, isolation, and division. There is a growing inability to understand and empathize with one another, inhibiting the creative and critical thinking necessary to address the local and global challenges we face collectively like pandemics, climate change, and issues of social justice and inequality.
Building on over a decade of experience in leading immersive international programs, CIEL program participants learn first hand from other communities’ experiences of conflict and resolution and are inspired and empowered to apply what they learned to their local context.
Our
partners
In our work, CIEL partners with a number of prestigious universities, organizations, and institutions.
Our work would not be possible without our inaugural Chairman Larry Kugelman, who served as a cornerstone of our organization, offering invaluable leadership, mentorship, and unwavering support. In honor of his profound impact and extraordinary legacy, we have established the Kugelman Scholarship Fund.
