Date: June 22-29, 2025 in-country; May 20 - June 20, 2025 pre-travel.

Through this immersive study abroad program, student participants will have the chance to engage in first-hand experiential learning about the history, politics, culture, impact on healthcare and related issues of the region including conversations with key stakeholders involved in the Northern Ireland conflict, peace process, health initiatives. and ongoing post-conflict reconciliation initiatives.

We will be preparing for the study abroad component of the class with an intensive 4-week asynchronous online pre-travel educational program between May 20 – June 20, 2025. This is designed to provide student participants with extensive background to the culture, healthcare, history, and politics of the region and to the nuances, main actors and key issues of the Northern Ireland conflict so students can arrive in the region prepared and ready to participate and learn. 

Cost: $2800 (Includes in-country transportation, accommodations, excursions, entrance fees and meals. Does NOT include UW tuition/fees, $325 study abroad fee or airfare).

Themes: For healthcare professionals, it offers insights into the intersection of health and conflict, examining the profound impacts on mental health, public health infrastructure, and healthcare delivery. By investigating innovative public health initiatives, community-based mental health programs, and collaborative healthcare practices, participants will learn valuable lessons for addressing health disparities and promoting wellness in post-conflict settings.
